New fresh-water biodegradeable holo glitter on offer from Ronald Britton
With glitter having become a difficult subject for the greetings industry, there’s a new fresh-water biodegradable product around that meets soon-to-be released EU microplastic legislation so could help greeting card publishers put the sparkle back on to cards.
Fears over pollution from the microplastics in traditional glitter have seen its use dwindling in the card and wrap industry, although printers such as East Sussex-based Abbotprint have sourced guilt-free biodegradable glitter to offer publishers.
Now British company Ronald Britton has expanded its offer to include Bioglitter Holo, a holographic-effect product with a Deco range suitable for coating, printing, art and craft, and other non-cosmetic applications.
Bioglitter Holo range joins the list of TÜV Austria OK biodegradable WATER-certified products offered by Ronald Britton, with no specific UK standards this level of certification considered the highest of its kind in the world.
The biodegradability tests at the heart of this certification are also specified by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in its proposed EU Microplastic legislation due to be published this year.
Andrew Thompson, technical director at Ronald Britton, said: “Being able to differentiate Bioglitter from other glitter is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers as customers become more aware of the environmental impacts of traditional glitter. And we’re proud to offer all our customers that peace of mind when they see the Ronald Britton’s registered Bioglitter logos on products made with Bioglitter.
“Developing Bioglitter Holo has been the most challenging product development yet, almost four years in the making. Needless to say, we’re delighted with what we have achieved, and to see it come to market with such high anticipation.”
Ronald Britton launched its award-winning Cosmetic Bioglitter Sparkle in 2016 followed by the opalescent Bioglitter Pure, and commercial director Stephen Cotton said the new product completes the trio of glitter effects: “Holographic is a very popular effect, it’s the one that everyone has been asking for.”
