Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to support them.

“Throughout the crisis we have been reminded of the special role that small firms play in local areas, looking after their customers, communities and the planet,” commented Michelle Ovens CBE, director of Small Business Saturday UK. “We are excited to be kicking off this year’s campaign to show our thanks to amazing small businesses like Stationery Supplies. As firms recover from the challenges of the pandemic we are calling upon everyone to get behind the campaign to make it our most impactful Small Business Saturday yet.”

In the countdown to Small Business Saturday some 100 small businesses are highlighted, one a day leading up to Small Business Saturday 2021 – and independent retail business owned by Sarah Laker was selected to be the focus of this coming Friday’s activity (September 3).

“I’m super chuffed,” Sarah told PG Buzz having just been informed that her business was to star in this year’s campaign. “To celebrate our #SmallBiz100 day and to thank our customers for their support during the pandemic we’ll have chocolates and a lucky dip of free gifts for all customers spending over £5 in both our shops. Gifts have been generously donated by Dandelion Cards, Premier Stationery, Zebra Pens and Legami – I have a lot of wrapping to do!” she added.

For the last eight years, the Small Buzz 100 have not only received exposure on Small Business Saturday’s social media channels and in the local and national press, but also joined the Small Business Saturday team in London at receptions in Downing Street, House of Lords and the Treasury Drum with the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Sarah has a busy few days ahead of her as next Monday (September 6) she will be participating in a panel discussion on the main stage at the Autumn Fair at the NEC (4pm-5pm), entitled, ‘Bringing together a community’, which promises take away practical lessons in creating a community out of a retailer’s consumers.
