Changes In Sainsbury’s Greeting Card And Wrap Buying Team

Having made huge strides in improving Sainsbury’s greeting card offer over the last five years, an internal restructure sees Carly Pearson, senior buyer for cards and wrap move category from today (May 28) to cover small domestic appliances.

Taking up the greeting card mantle under the new structure is Kate Goss. Kate has been part of the Sainsbury’s buying team for over eight years, becoming senior buyer of stationery in 2018 while also continuing her gifting and events buying responsibilities.

Kate’s new remit will not only encompass cards and wrap, but will now also include the additional categories of paper tableware and party, alongside boxed Christmas cards which will move from Sainsbury’s Christmas seasonal category into cards and wrap.

Kate inherits a strong legacy on the card front with Sainsbury’s having won the Best Supermarket Retailer of Greeting Cards award in The Retas for two years in succession.

Looking back on her time as the supermarket’s senior card buyer, Carly said: “On a personal level I have learnt so many new things from the industry and will always cherish this role as some of the best times in my career.”

In a heartfelt message to the card and wrap supplies with whom she has worked to improve Sainsbury’s selection, Carly wrote: “During the five years I have managed the cards and wrap category I have learned so much from you all and have had such a wonderful time working alongside every one of you,” adding that she really hopes “at some point in the future I may get a chance to return to the cards industry and work with you all again.”

While Emma Tanner is to remain within Sainsbury’s card and wrap team as a buyer (with a focus on cards), Chloe Johnson (who has been part of the card and wrap buying team for the last two and a half years) leaves the team today, moving within the business to the garden maintenance category.
