Fuelled partly by her own frustrations of using websites, Janie Cook (the founder and owner of JanieWilson card and candles company) commissioned Skylight Media to create a brand new website for the company that was easy to navigate for the user as well as easy to manage from the publisher’s side.
“Our old site had a very complex back of house and because of this we were experiencing lots of problems. As we all know there is nothing worse than going onto a website that is so not clear and simple to use. Many a time I have gone onto a website and any frustrating delays or faults I have clicked off the site almost instantly,” Janie told PG Buzz of the new site which has just gone live. “This is something that we were aware could be happening with our website, hence the decision to start again with a brand new site”.
She says that having a decent website is now “such an important part of the business. We want to give customers every option to place orders, whether through our agents, by phone and via our website. Shops don’t always have time to spend with an agent or they may need stock really quickly, some of our customers like to do there ordering in the evening in the comfort of their own home and away from the bustle of their shops, where they need to give time to their own customers.”
Janie adds that an increasing percentage of customers are shopping on its website, something she hopes will continues as a result of the launch of the new and improved site.
Nottingham-based Skylight Media (which sponsored the WiFi at the recent PG Live show) has created coming up for 30 different websites for greeting card publishers over the last 10 years since it started working in the greeting card arena.
Commenting on how the sector compares to other industries in which Skylight has business connections, director Matt Riceman, said: “Out of all the many industries we work in, greeting cards is by far the most receptive and friendly, and rare in that generally it is seen as a positive that we work with several others in the same industry as we have a good insight into the typical requirements and more specific display and product selection and ordering needs.”
