Industry comes together to celebrate Duncan Spence’s 75th birthday

Having been instrumental in publishing millions of greeting cards over the decades it is only right and proper that Duncan Spence, the irrepressible entrepreneur – whose many investments include Moonpig, Ling and Carte Blanche – received a fair few cards himself last week as he enjoyed a festival of celebrations to mark his 75th birthday, attended by many of those who have been involved in his successful business journey.

Duncan, a pioneer in specialist greeting card printing (being crucial in the development of Andrew Brownsword Collection of Forever Friends fame), went on to spot the potential in the then embryonic Moonpig becoming an early investor; acquired Ling Design (now owned by Swantex) and became (and still remains) a shareholder of Carte Blanche.

Duncan was awarded with an Honorary Achievement Award at The Henries in 2005.

However, it was not his sharp business acumen that was came to the fore last week, but Duncan’s hospitable and incredibly generous nature, as he treated friends and business associates to a cornucopia of events, including a dinner in the BT Tower. The celebrations culminated in a lavish dinner and cabaret extravaganza held in the glamorous ballroom of the Park Lane Sheraton in London last Thursday evening (March 29), Duncan’s actual birthday.
