The legacy of Sir Henry Cole, who invented commercial Christmas cards in the UK and was a founding director of the V&A museum, continues as the museum pledges to run a course aimed at the next generation of greeting card creatives.

Greeting card publisher and illustrator Lucy Ledger has partnered with the prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum in London to offer some workshops focusing on building a creative business. The aim of the initial workshop, to be held on 17 February 2018 is to help both new and established freelancers, artists and designers find the confidence to build or refocus a career utilising their unique talents, with a special focus on greeting cards. The sessions will give guidance on how to develop a strong and authentic personal brand.

The V&A workshop takes place on 18 February 18 2018.

Lucy, who has been a qualified illustrator for over 15 years and been running a design studio for eight years, publishes her own range of cards and stationery. Lucy has worked across several creative industry sectors and also offers online courses and mentoring. She says: “It’s such a privilege to work with the V&A museum to deliver these workshops. I know how daunting it can be as an artist or designer starting out and finding your own unique voice in such competitive marketplaces. My aim is to give confidence and advice so the students can go away feeling like they have a clear focus on what their next steps will be – and to be able to deliver this session in the world’s leading museum of art and design should make it even more inspiring!”

For the afternoon session Lucy has invited fellow greeting card publishers Paper Salad and Rose Hill Designs to talk to participants. The GCA has also been invited to tell the students more about the greeting card sector while there will also be representatives from paper company GF Smith.
