The finalists announced for The UK Calendar Awards 2017

PrintThe finalists of The UK Calendar Awards 2017, to become known as The Calies, have been announced today (October 10).

These significant new awards, launched by Max Publishing (owner of Progressive Greetings), recognise excellence in the calendar, Advent calendar and diaries sector, including retail, charity and corporate (B2B) titles.

The Calies attracted 500 entries that were judged by a panel made up of leading retailers, design experts, paper specialists and marketing maestros.

The winners of The Calies will be unveiled at a memorable afternoon/early evening awards event to be held on Wednesday 29 November 2017 at the historic Stationers’ Hall, in the City of London.

All winners will receive a special pewter trophy that has been created for The Calies.

“The calendar market is still a very vibrant sector – over 16 million calendars are sold alone every year in UK, with one in three homes having a calendar on their walls – that continues to prosper,” commented Warren Lomax, joint md of Max Publishing.

“The finalists of the first ever Calies echo the diversity that exists within the calendar and diary sector, in subject matter, format and publishers who produced them,” commented Warren Lomax, joint md of Max Publishing.

The Calendar Ambassador Award 2017

No finalists are announced for this award, but contenders are being sought for nominees of those who have contributed to the calendar and diary sector.

These new awards are the successors to the National Calendar Awards (NCAs), which have been running for the last decade (which in turn were a progression from the National Business Calendar Awards which initially only recognised business calendars).

The Calies are being well supported by leading calendar publishers, diary manufacturers and dedicated trade suppliers.

There are currently five headline sponsors of The Calies 2017 – Calendar Club, Carousel Calendars, Danilo, Eight Days A Week and Rose Calendars. In addition, there are also a growing number of official supporters, which currently include Allan + Bertram, Andrews McMeel Publishing, Avonside, BrownTrout, Emma Ball, Flame Tree Publishing, Graphique de France, Pomegranate, Portico Designs, Premier Paper, Tallon, Tams Packaging and TeNeues.

Adding his endorsement of The Calies, from both a retailer and publisher perspective, David Pike, managing director of Calendar Club and Carousel said: “We are pleased to see the National Calendar Awards being re-vitalised and broadened, in terms of both the publishers and the retailers taking part. We are also excited that the rejuvenation of the awards represents an opportunity to promote calendars as a product to retailers and the end-customer.”
