Thinking of You Week has got off to a great start, evidenced by the widespread engagement by those within and outside the industry for the week long GCA-card sending initiative that officially started yesterday.

In Nottingham, members of the Paper Rose team went back to school and took assembly in Cropwell Bishop Primary School (followed by some card-related lessons with the pupils); neighbouring publisher, The Art File visited the city’s Children’s Hospital armed with cards for the patients and nurses to write; over in the Cheshire village of Martson, the public responded positively to Katie Phythian Designs’ 200 card (with stamps!) giveaway; independent retailer Calliope Gifts’ windows were full of a ToYW promotion while on the multiple front, Waitrose, Clintons and Card Factory kicked off their respective activities. On the media front, BBC Radio Wiltshire broadcast the first in a week long series of news items, a series of craft magazines launched design competitions and social media channels were all abuzz.

Commenting on the fourth ever Thinking of You Week, which encourages people to ‘send more cards to deliver a smile’, GCA ceo Sharon Little said: “It’s the best yet and the Week has only just started! It is wonderful to see the wide level of engagement in so many different strands – from publishers, independent retailers, multiples, online operators, Royal Mail, crafts magazines, schools, Sea Rangers, an old people’s home, a hospital and the media, for starters.”

Sharon also pointed out another measure of how interest in the event has increased “our Thinking of You Week dedicated website had 335 new page views in a few hours of yesterday alone. There are only positives attached to sending cards, Thinking of You Week provides a focus to encourage everyone to write and give cards to make this world a happier place in these unsettling times.”

As part of his year long Greeting Card Project, Blue Eyed Sun’s md Jeremy Corner marks Thinking of You Week with a video featuring footage from Dr Lynda Shaw who explains the psychological benefits of sending cards.
