The Card Centre celebrates milestone with cake and coffee for customers
The Card Centre is one of the oldest shops in the Suffolk seaside town of Felixstowe and has been in the same family for three generations. John Barratt is the current owner and has been involved in the shop for over 40 years. His parents bought the premises from John’s grandmother in 1947 as a cafe. They then turned it into a confectioners and tobacconists in 1949. Then in 1963 John’s mother took the decision to turn it completely into a card shop, with John joining his parents in the business in 1976, taking over completely in the 1990’s. This week John and the team have been treating the customers to cake and coffee as they celebrate 70 years in business.
“The shop is not large, but is heaving virtually all the time, with a huge range of cards, wrap and some giftware, as well as enthusiastic customers, many of whom have been coming to us for years,” says assistant buyer Anna Tink. “And we thought what better way to thank our loyal customers than by treating them to a drink and cake as they pop in. Our shop is full of many happy memories for so many people.”
The celebration cake features a picture of the shop, showing what it looked like 70 years ago. The picture is also the design on a range of limited edition cotton shoppers, which have gone down a treat with customers!
