Released this Friday (30 June), Despicable Me 3 is set to be one of this summer’s biggest blockbusters and fans are eagerly counting down the days, with many taking to social media to share their excitement.

In Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s latest offering, Gru comes face-to-face with his long-lost twin brother Dru, who wants to team up with him for one last heist and that means going up against Balthazar Bratt, a former child star of the 80s whose music and fashion taste is still stuck in that decade, to steal the diamond that Bratt has stolen.

Danilo Promotions has been working with Universal for several years on Despicable Me products, and are publishing a strong range of calendars, diaries, greeting cards, giftwrap and bags this year, designed around the new film’s funky, colourful 80s theme.

Danilo is running a Despicable Me 3-themed FSDU with Tesco starting from Monday 26 June for several weeks, to promote its new Despicable Me 3 card and giftwrap range.

“Despicable Me is one of those brands that everyone within our business loves working on, as it really has mass appeal across all age groups,” says Danilo’s licensing director Dan Grant. “This allows us to create a range of cards, wrap and bags that target every family member from the kids through to grandparents. Our latest range focuses on the key themes from the movie both across characters such as the Minions and Gru, but also making use of the strong 1980s artwork that really makes the offering different to previous years.

Having a strong range visually is great, but it’s really key that we support the offering with promotional activity and this year we are engaging in retail and consumer marketing to drive the awareness and maximise sales. The Universal team work with all key retailers to drive awareness for the Despicable Me franchise and this enables us to deliver some very exciting joint promotional activity with the likes of Tesco. We can also engage directly with consumers through our social media platforms, driving awareness and delivering opportunities to enter competitions to win movie related prizes.”

And for anyone that attended PG Live this year, you may have been lucky enough to meet and have a selfie taken with Gru and Stuart the Minion, as they visited the Danilo stand on Tuesday 6 June!
